The NSW SES advises people to AVOID THE FOLLOWING AREAS due to predicted blizzard conditions, snow, fog, ice, and frost, as well as x, y, z:

  • Perisher Valley
  • Thredbo Top Station
  • Falls Creek
A high pressure ridge lies across the eastern half of NSW while a cold front and its associated trough approach the state from the west. The system is forecast to cross the state during Friday and Saturday bringing gusty showers to the inland and ranges.

Behind this, a broad high pressure ridge is likely to sit across the state on Sunday. Another cold front is expected to cross the state early next week.

You should monitor the situation and avoid the area until further advised. There may be damaged infrastructure and dangerous hazards within the area.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises a high pressure system moving east towards the Tasman Sea, lingering there today before a series of cold front approach from the west.

The first most significant front crossing on Friday into early Saturday morning, followed by a weaker front on Saturday into Sunday and a third cold front passing on Sunday morning. A high pressure ridge is forecast to develop over northwestern Victoria on Sunday evening.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following impacts may occur:

  • Medium chance of showers in the west, most likely in the morning and afternoon. Near zero chance of rain elsewhere.
  • Snow possible above 1800 metres.
  • Winds northwesterly 25 to 35 km/h turning westerly 30 to 45 km/h during the morning then decreasing to 20 to 30 km/h during the evening.

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.

What you need to do:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel. If you do need to travel, plan to avoid potentially snow affected roads and consider different ways to get to where you need to go.
  • Driving in snow or icy conditions requires a high level of concentration, skill and a lot of patience. Only drive through snow or ice if it is essential.
  • Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
  • Stay clear of fallen trees, power lines and any damaged buildings.
  • Do not go sightseeing as this may put yourself and others at risk.
  • Share this information with family, friends, and neighbours.
