NSW SES is advising people that it is NOT SAFE TO RETURN to the following area(s) due to inland, widespread, fast flowing, dangerous, hazardous, unsafe, flash, receding, steady, falling, rising, tidal. flooding:

  • test

This emergency warning was first issued Monday 18 May 9:43 am. It has been updated based on extended flood predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology. If you are located in the warning area, you were warned to Evacuate before Monday 18 May 9:45 am.

It is not safe to return. Continue to avoid flood-affected areas.


Evacuation Information

You should remain evacuated staying safe with family, friends, or alternate accommodation in areas not affected by flooding.  If you are unable to find accommodation, evacuation centres have been set up at:

  • castle hill RSL, Castle Hill NSW

If you return to the area, you may become trapped without power, water, internet and other essential services. It may be too dangerous for NSW SES to rescue you, and buildings may have been impacted by floodwater.

This Emergency Warning will remain in place until you can return.


Victorian communities

This warning is for communities in NSW. Floods have different impacts on either side of the Murray River. For information and warnings relevant to Victoria, visit emergency.vic.gov.au or call 1800 226 226. Always follow advice from your State's emergency services.


What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises test BP

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwaters:

  • bridge may close
  • roads covered
  • transport out of service

Once the flood water reaches 233 metres, safe evacuation routes are likely to be cut off.


What you need to do:

If you have not already evacuated:

  • If floodwater comes inside, move to a higher point such as a kitchen bench or second storey. Do not enter your roof cavity unless you have a safe exit point.
  • Be aware that you may be isolated by floodwater for a significant amount of time.
  • In a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000).
  • The number of mosquitos can grow after a flood. Protect your health and safety by using repellent, wear closed in shoes, long sleeves and pants, and empty containers that have water in them.
  • Drinking water may be contaminated and unsafe to drink. Consider using bottled water or boiling water before drinking or use.

If you have already evacuated:

  • Stay where you are until you are told it is safe to go back.
  • NSW SES will issue a Flood 'Reduced Threat: Return with Caution' Advice, when you can return.
  • If there is a flooded road, turn around, find a safer way or wait until floods ease.
  • Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.

If properties have been affected by floodwater there may be impacts in your area:
  • Some homes may be fully flooded
  • Roads and bridges may be closed or damaged
  • Evacuation routes may be cut off
  • Public transport is likely to be affected
  • Power, phones, internet and water may not be working
  • It may be too dangerous for emergency services to rescue you
  • There may be sewerage and other dangerous items in the water
