The NSW SES is directing people in the following area(s) to EVACUATE NOW due to dangerous waves from coastal erosion caused by storm activity occurring at:
- Byron Coast
- Coffs Coast
- Macquarie Coast
You must evacuate now because evacuation routes will be blocked by 5:00 pm.
Evacuation Information
You should evacuate to stay with family, friends, or alternate accommodation in areas unaffected by coastal erosion. If you are unable to find accommodation, Registration points have been set up at:
- Castle Hill RSL, 77 Castle Street, Castle Hill NSW
Registration points have plans to manage the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Do not hesitate to go to an evacuation centre if you have no safe, alternative accommodation.
What are we expecting?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises a high pressure system moving east towards the Tasman Sea, lingering there today before a series of cold front approach from the west.
The first most significant front crossing on Friday into early Saturday morning, followed by a weaker front on Saturday into Sunday and a third cold front passing on Sunday morning. A high pressure ridge is forecast to develop over northwestern Victoria on Sunday evening.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by coastal erosion:
- Medium chance of showers in the west, most likely in the morning and afternoon. Near zero chance of rain elsewhere.
- Snow possible above 1800 metres.
- Winds northwesterly 25 to 35 km/h turning westerly 30 to 45 km/h during the morning then decreasing to 20 to 30 km/h during the evening.
This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.
What you need to do:
- If you have a Home or Business Emergency Plan, follow it.
- Gather your possessions for evacuation. These might include mobile phone, charger, battery-powered radio, medicine, rain gear, warm clothes, blankets, baby and pet items, water, food, torch, something to attract attention, and valuables like photos and insurance or banking records.
- Turn off gas, electricity and water if you leave your property.
- Gather your pet(s) and companion animals for safe travel.
- Travel to the home of family or friends who are in a safe location away from the area.
- Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
