Monitor conditions
The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS as the main tsunami threat has passed:
- Location A
- Location B
It is now safe to return to coastal areas. Although the main tsunami threat has passed people should monitor conditions as small unusual waves and currents and abnormal tides may still affect some beaches, harbours and coastal waterways for many hours or even days.
You should monitor conditions by checking warnings issued by NSW SES on their website and Facebook page, listening to your local ABC radio station, and following the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.
Victorian communities
This warning is for communities in NSW. For information and warnings relevant to Victoria, visit emergency.vic.gov.au or call 1800 226 226. Always follow advice from your State's emergency services.
What you need to do:
- Vessels which remained out to sea may now return to shore with caution. Be aware of debris on or below the water surface, unusual waves, currents and tides, along with possible damage to marinas and moorings.
- Drive slowly, plan your route carefully to avoid any flooded roads and allow extra travel time. Damage to roads, bridges or buildings caused by the tsunami may still exist in your area. Avoid coastal roads if possible.
- Be aware of road hazards including mud and debris.
- Remain vigilant as there could still be water in low lying areas.
- Take care as local roads could still have water over them.
- Check in on your neighbours if safe to do so.
- Check on animals and livestock.
