Watch and Act

The NSW SES advises people to AVOID THE FOLLOWING AREAS due to coastal erosion caused by storm activity resulting in significant damage to buildings, infrastructure, the environment, public facilities and potentially life:

  • Byron Coast
  • Coffs Coast
  • Macquarie Coast

You should monitor the situation and avoid the area until further advised. There may be damaged infrastructure and dangerous hazards within the area.

What are we expecting?

The Bureau of Meteorology advises more frequent extreme sea levels linked to coastal inundation and coastal erosion. For most of Australia, coastal floods that currently occur occasionally will become chronic later this century.

Even tropical cyclones and tropical lows that stay offshore can have severe impacts like dangerous surf with large waves causing coastal erosion.

Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by coastal erosion:

  • Don and Dee Rivers and Callide Creek in the Fitzroy River catchment
  • Burnett River and Three Moon Creek in the Burnett River catchment
  • Mary River, Six Mile Creek and Tinana Creek in the Mary River catchment

This event may change quickly. NSW SES will monitor the situation and update warnings if the situation changes.

What you need to do:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel in the affected area.
  • If you do need to travel, plan your route carefully to avoid the impacted area and allow extra travel time.
  • Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
  • Custom A
  • Custom B
