Emergency Warning
Not safe to return
NSW SES is advising people that it is NOT SAFE TO RETURN to the following area(s) due to falling minor flooding:
- bondi
- manly
This emergency warning was first issued Wednesday 27 May 11:22 am. It has been updated based on extended flood predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology. If you are located in the warning area, you were warned to Evacuate before Wednesday 27 May 11:30 am.
It is not safe to return. Continue to avoid flood-affected areas.
Evacuation Information
You should remain evacuated staying safe with family, friends, or alternate accommodation in areas not affected by flooding.
If you return to the area, you may become trapped without power, water, internet and other essential services. It may be too dangerous for NSW SES to rescue you, and buildings may have been impacted by floodwater.
This Emergency Warning will remain in place until you can return.
What are we expecting?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises a broad trough over northern and eastern NSW is expected to generate widespread moderate rainfall and thunderstorms over the next few days. A low within the trough is expected to result in heavy rainfall for parts of the Hunter and southern parts of the Mid North Coast from late Thursday.
Minor flooding may develop from overnight Thursday into Friday along the Manning and Gloucester. Uncertainty remains in the location of the heaviest falls, and the Flood Watch area will be revised over the coming days.
Catchments in the flood watch area are moderately wet.
Based on predictions from the Bureau of Meteorology, the following areas may be impacted by dangerous floodwater:
- Low lying areas adjacent to the river
- Low lying roads, bridges and causeways
Once the flood water reaches 25 metres, expected at 11:30 am Thu 28 May, safe evacuation routes are likely to be cut off.
What you need to do:
If you have not already evacuated:
- If floodwater comes inside, move to a higher point such as a kitchen bench or second storey. Do not enter your roof cavity unless you have a safe exit point.
- Be aware that you may be isolated by floodwater for a significant amount of time.
- In a life-threatening emergency, call Triple Zero (000).
If you have already evacuated:
- Stay where you are until you are told it is safe to go back.
- NSW SES will issue a Flood 'Reduced Threat: Return with Caution' Advice, when you can return.
- If there is a flooded road, turn around, find a safer way or wait until floods ease.
- Obey all signs about road closures and instructions from emergency services.
