Advice

The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to PREPARE NOW for snowstorm:

  • Perisher Valley
  • Thredbo Top Station
  • Falls Creek
A high pressure ridge lies across the eastern half of NSW while a cold front and its associated trough approach the state from the west. The system is forecast to cross the state during Friday and Saturday bringing gusty showers to the inland and ranges.

Behind this, a broad high pressure ridge is likely to sit across the state on Sunday. Another cold front is expected to cross the state early next week.

What are we expecting?

The NSW SES advises these weather conditions may cause:

  • Medium chance of showers in the west, most likely in the morning and afternoon. Near zero chance of rain elsewhere.
  • Snow possible above 1800 metres.
  • Winds northwesterly 25 to 35 km/h turning westerly 30 to 45 km/h during the morning then decreasing to 20 to 30 km/h during the evening.

What you need to do:

  • Monitor warnings issued by NSW SES on our website and Facebook page and check the latest weather information from the Bureau of Meteorology online.
  • Prepare your house. Check roof gutters are clear and that you have sufficient food and heating supplies to last a number of days.
  • Prepare an emergency kit in case you lose power or need to leave your home.
  • Move livestock and companion animals to safe shelter.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel. If you do need to travel, plan to avoid potentially snow affected roads and consider different ways to get to where you need to go.
